Work Camp Release Destinations
Chesterfield County Work Camp is a separately named local operation. A person finishing a local Work Camp sentence may be released under county authority. If the person is committed or transferred to SCDC, county control ends but state incarceration continues. The county entry should identify the exit event; the receiving custodian's record answers what followed.
Request the release date and time, release disposition, booking or placement identifier, sentence reference, and receiving agency when maintained. Do not assume that an exit from the Work Camp means the person returned to the community. Another warrant, detainer, or transfer can keep custody active elsewhere.
| Path | Confirm with |
|---|---|
| Completed local sentence | Work Camp release entry and court sentence |
| Transfer to SCDC | County transfer record and SCDC current search |
| Community supervision | Court docket and SCDPPPS search |
| Other detainer | Named receiving agency |
Confirm Work Camp Releases
No official Work Camp release database was verified. The Sheriff's booking-record route says county booking records are not immediately available online and offers in-person reports for a specified period. Because a booking report is not necessarily a release report, ask which existing release log, sheet, or jail-management entry records the exit.
- Give the person's name, case or booking identifier, and a narrow date range.
- Name Chesterfield County Work Camp so the request is not routed only to the Detention Center.
- Ask for the actual release or transfer entry and any receiving agency.
- Review the Chesterfield Public Index for the sentence and later court action.
- If SCDC received the person, use its current portal until a completed state release appears in the separate released tool.
An absence from a current search is inconclusive. Identifiers, reporting times, and system scope must match before drawing a conclusion.
Work Camp Records Contact
The 2025 South Carolina Jail Administrators Association directory lists the Work Camp and Detention Center at the same address and with the same fax, but it gives each a different telephone number. These facts support separate facility pages without implying separate campuses, online systems, or public service desks.

Work Camp Sentence Credits
Local credit rules differ from SCDC's state-prison rules. South Carolina Code Section 24-13-210(C) provides one day of good-behavior credit for every two days served in a local detention facility or on county public works, subject to faithful compliance. Credits can be forfeited. Section 24-13-230(E) addresses locally published productive-duty credits at zero to one day for each two days.
Those statutes explain the framework, not a specific person's final date. Request the sentence, admission date, relevant pretrial credit, the good-behavior or productive-duty ledger or final calculation if maintained, any forfeitures, and the completed release entry. Do not apply SCDC's public release-date calculator to a locally sentenced Work Camp placement.
- Good-behavior credit
- Local credit conditioned on faithful rule compliance.
- Productive-duty credit
- A locally set credit for qualifying work under the responsible official's published rule.
- Forfeiture
- Loss of earned credit under applicable discipline or law.
Work Camp Transfers to SCDC
A Work Camp transfer into SCDC creates two linked records. The county entry shows when local custody ended and should identify SCDC as receiver. The SCDC current search then shows state incarceration as of the previous midnight, along with state sentence information and a Projected Release Date. That projection can change as credits or legal facts change.
After state release, use the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search. It requires a release-date range and County, with an optional registry filter. Selecting Chesterfield does not make the result a Work Camp release list; it remains evidence of release from state prison. If supervision follows, the SCDPPPS previous-day search supplies the next stage.
Work Camp Release Record Fields
The Work Camp has no verified public roster or standardized release screen. Its useful fields must therefore be framed as a request for information in records that already exist, not as columns promised by an online service. Begin with the full name and any case, booking, admission, or placement identifier that can separate the correct local term from another Chesterfield County custody event.
| Item to request | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Admission or assignment entry | Confirms when the Work Camp became the responsible local operation. |
| Sentence and court reference | Connects the placement to the governing judicial record. |
| Credit ledger or final calculation | Shows credits and forfeitures actually applied by the responsible official. |
| Release date and disposition | Records when and how Work Camp custody ended. |
| Transfer or receiving agency | Distinguishes local discharge from continued custody elsewhere. |
No verified source promises a Work Camp booking photo as part of this record. If a maintained photograph is needed to distinguish the person, ask for it separately and expect applicable exemptions, sealing, expungement, and redaction rules to control production.
Work Camp FOIA Record Requests
A written Chesterfield County FOIA request is the fallback when the facility cannot provide the existing entry through an informal inquiry. Send it to FOIA@chesterfieldcountysc.com or Chesterfield County Administration, Attn. Susie Boswell, Clerk to Council, 178 Mill Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709. The county's FOIA help number is 843-623-2535.
The local fee schedule effective June 1, 2026 states a $5 minimum, actual qualified staff time, specific copy and USB charges, postage, and a 25 percent deposit when an estimate reaches $100 or more. Those are request-policy terms, not a forecast of the charge for any one Work Camp record. A short date range and a clear description can help the custodian locate the responsive material.
Name Chesterfield County Work Camp in the request. Seek the existing admission, assignment, credit, release, or transfer entry for the identified person and dates. Ask for the release timestamp, disposition, and receiving agency if maintained. Do not ask the county to calculate a new date, assemble a new release list, or infer what happened from several files when the goal is access to an existing record.
South Carolina FOIA Section 30-4-30(D)(3) supplies an immediate in-person inspection route for identifying documents concerning people confined during the preceding three months, subject to exemptions. The provision is not a destruction rule. Older court records can remain available, while sealing or expungement may restrict identifying material.
Verify Work Camp Credit Calculations
A statute alone cannot produce a confirmed Work Camp exit date. Section 24-13-210(C) ties local good-behavior credit to faithful compliance and allows one day for each two days served. Section 24-13-230(E) concerns locally set and published productive-duty credit from zero to one day for each two days. Credits may be forfeited, and the responsible local official's record controls what was actually applied.
For an individual calculation, request the imposed sentence, admission date, any relevant pretrial credit, the maintained good-behavior and productive-duty entries, forfeitures, and the final calculation. Then compare those items with the completed release entry. A projected or earliest date is not proof that the person left on that day.
SCDC's public calculator addresses the state framework and describes an earliest possible scenario. It cannot calculate an already sentenced person's authoritative date, and it should not be applied to a local Work Camp term. If the county record shows a transfer into SCDC, the legal and record context changes at that handoff. Use state records from then forward.
Reconcile Work Camp Release Records
The facility entry, court docket, and receiving-agency record serve separate roles. The Work Camp record shows the local custody event. The Chesterfield court case supplies the sentence and later judicial acts. SCDC, SCDPPPS, another jail, a federal custodian, or ICE supplies the next status when a transfer or supervision follows.
These sources can update at different times. SCDC's current search reflects the previous midnight, SCDPPPS data reflects the previous day, and a VINELink notice depends on participating-agency transmission. Official Chesterfield County jail participation in VINELink was not independently verified. A missing result can also reflect scope or an identifier mismatch. It does not prove community release.
Keep the words precise when records differ. “Released from the Work Camp” can mean that this local operation no longer held the person. It does not, by itself, mean all custody ended. The receiving agency field or a direct confirmation from the facility resolves the distinction.
Confirm the South Carolina Work Camp
Chesterfield County, Virginia, dominates many searches for the county name, but its agencies and programs are outside this project's jurisdiction. A valid Work Camp source should identify South Carolina, connect to the Chesterfield County or Sheriff web ecosystem, use a South Carolina court or corrections source, or otherwise establish the SC location.
The shared Goodale Road address, the Work Camp's 843-623-7234 number, and the separate statewide directory listing are practical checks. They establish the named local operation without supporting claims about its campus layout, visitation, mail, commissary, transportation, or release desk. Where the research is silent, ask the facility rather than importing details from another Chesterfield or another jail.
